The Kingdom of Bhutan is a country enclosed in the Himalayan mountains, sandwiched between India and China in Southeast Asia. The Bhutanese call their country Druk Yul (the country of the Dragon of Thunder). Historically Bhutan was known by many names as Lho Mon (Southern Darklands), Lho Tsendenjong (the southern country of Tsenden cypresses), and lhomen Khazhi (the southern country of the 4 approaches). It is a constitutional monarchy (since July 2008).
The origins of the name Bhutan are not clear: historians have suggested that it may have as its origin the variations of the Sanskrit word Bhota _ ant (the end of Vbhot which is another name for Tibet) or Bhu _ uttan ). The word Bhutan as the name of this country dates from the end of the 19th century.
It is a very small country that is approximately the size of Switzerland and is connected to the Himalayas by eastern Nepal and southern Tibet. This Himalayan kingdom remains the best protected of industrialization and mass tourism. The way of life is very strongly influenced by the rules of Buddhism.
